Amritsar/Patiala, 8 February 2025: Amritsar Rural Police arrested an Army jawan for allegedly leaking confidential military information to Pakistan-based intelligence agencies. The accused, identified as Sandeep Singh from Sardoolgarh, was taken into custody in Patiala while on leave from his posting at the Nasik Army camp.
His arrest marks the second in three days as part of an ongoing investigation. Earlier, the police apprehended Amritpal Singh, a resident of Chamba Kalan village in Tarn Taran, who was linked to a syndicate involved in espionage and cross-border drug trafficking.
Another Army jawan, Rajbir Singh, has also been booked in the case, and police teams have been dispatched to arrest him.
Sandeep’s arrest followed Amritpal’s interrogation, during which critical leads emerged. Authorities seized three mobile phones from Sandeep, which have been sent for forensic examination.
According to police officials, the accused shared classified details, including Army movements, ammunition stockpiles, and unit locations, with Pakistan’s ISI. The espionage network had been active for the past two years.
In connection with the case, police had earlier arrested Mandeep Singh, alias Maddy, and Madhav Sharma from Rajasthan.
During their operation, authorities recovered 500 grams of heroin, ₹10 lakh in drug money, a cash-counting machine, and a .30 bore pistol. The car they were traveling in was also impounded.
SSP Amritsar Rural Charanjit Singh Sohal stated that Army authorities had been informed about the involvement of Amritpal, Sandeep, and Rajbir in the case.
“The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests may follow,” he said.
Sandeep is set to be presented in court, after which police will seek his remand for further questioning, officials added.
