Dhaka, 03 December 2024: The Chittagong court postponed the bail hearing of Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu, a prominent religious leader in Bangladesh, due to the absence of legal representation. Chinmoy Das, who faces sedition charges following his arrest last month, will have his case reviewed on January 2.
Meanwhile, ISKCON representatives expressed concern over the critical condition of Raman Roy, the lawyer defending Chinmoy Das. Roy was brutally attacked, allegedly for representing the Hindu leader in court. ISKCON Kolkata spokesperson Radharman Das stated that the attack was an attempt to silence legal support for Chinmoy Das.
Chinmoy Krishna Das, a former leader of ISKCON Bangladesh, was arrested after leading protests advocating for the Hindu community in Rangpur, Dhaka. Earlier, on November 26, the Dhaka High Court denied his bail plea.
The postponement raises questions about legal access and safety for those defending minority rights in the region.
