Chandigarh, 3 December 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Chandigarh to review the recently implemented criminal laws—the Indian Penal Code, Indian Civil Defense Code, and Indian Evidence Act—at Punjab Engineering College (PEC).

Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, Punjab Governor, and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria accompanied them, presenting an exhibition showcasing the procedural changes under the new laws.

PM Modi was briefed on processes ranging from case registration to investigation and the management of accused individuals in custody.

Chandigarh Police officials informed PM Modi that 900 FIRs have already been registered under the new laws, with decisions delivered in four cases.

They accentuated that all police stations in Chandigarh have been fully computerized, with ongoing awareness initiatives for women, children, and the elderly.

Meanwhile, Youth Congress workers protested in Sector-23 over municipal corporation funding announcements ahead of the Prime Minister’s arrival. Police swiftly detained Youth Congress President Deepak Lubana, State General Secretary Kapil Chopra, and others.
