Chandigarh, August 25: Burglars once again targeted a Verka booth in the city, breaking into the outlet in Sector 18-D and fleeing with dairy products, chocolates and coins worth nearly ₹15,000.
The theft was discovered on the morning of August 18, when the booth owner, Deepak Manna of Nayagaon, arrived to open the shop. “I have been running the Verka booth on rent since 1998. When I reached around 6 am, the locks were broken and food items were lying scattered inside,” Deepak stated in his police complaint.
A closer check revealed that the thieves had carried away 24 one-litre cans of ghee, six half-kilo ghee tins, 150 chocolates, seven kilograms of butter, 12 kilograms of paneer, two crates of lassi, several large coffee packets and coins of various denominations amounting to about ₹15,000.
The case has drawn attention as it comes shortly after another burglary at a Verka booth in Sector 28-C, where thieves had also taken away dairy products, chocolates and cash. Police noted that investigations are underway in both incidents.
Meanwhile, burglars also struck a locked house in Sector 40B between the night of August 22 and 23. The complainant, Sham Lal Kashyap, reported the theft of household electronics, including an LED television, a microwave oven, a geyser, a ceiling fan and other electrical items.
