Chandigarh: Chandigarh administrator Gulab Chand Kataria has proposed extending the deadline for residents to install rooftop solar power plants, offering significant relief to around 4,000 homeowners who received resumption notices in September for non-compliance.

During a review meeting with officials from the department of science and technology, renewable energy, and the Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society (CREST), Kataria assessed the city’s renewable energy initiatives.

Present at the meeting were UT adviser Rajeev Verma, home secretary Mandeep Brar, deputy commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh, and other senior officials, according to reports.

The state officer and deputy commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh informed attendees that notices were sent to residents with plots of 500 square yards or larger, requiring adherence to building bylaws mandating the installation of rooftop solar systems.

He noted that residents were given two months to comply with these regulations.

In response, Kataria suggested that the estate department consider allowing additional time for residents who submit applications for installation within the two-month notice period.
