CHANDIGARH: In a major step toward enhancing student discipline and academic accountability, Chandigarh government schools have launched an automated attendance notification system across all 111 union territory institutions. Implemented under the School Management Information System, the mechanism sends an instant text message to parents as soon as a student is marked absent by class teachers. The initiative introduces private-school style attendance tracking to the government education sector, effectively curbing unauthorized absences and period-skipping among senior students.
The digital monitoring framework has reportedly yielded encouraging results since its rollout, with school administrators observing a noticeable drop in class bunking. School Education Director Nitish Singla maintained that the automated communication system fosters greater parental participation while instilling a higher sense of responsibility among students. School heads affirmed that parents have welcomed the real-time updates, noting that immediate notification ensures families remain fully informed about their children’s daily school attendance.
