Chandigarh, 30 October 2024: Nearly two months after the previous board’s term expired, Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has been reconstituted for a new three-year period by Union Territory Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria.
The board’s last term officially concluded on September 7, yet its inactivity extends well beyond that date, raising concerns about its functionality.
The CHB has notably been dormant for the past 17 months, with the last board meeting held in May of last year, the administration said.
The position of CHB chairperson has also been vacant for six years, following the transfer of the board’s last regular chairperson, Maninder Singh Bains, in March 2018.
Since Bains’ departure, the role has been overseen on an interim basis by various UT advisers, leaving the board without steady leadership.
This reconstitution marks an attempt to address the board’s operational void.
