Chandigarh, October 16, 2024: A resident of Sector 56 was allegedly robbed of ₹30,000 at gunpoint near the Sector-41 petrol pump on Sunday afternoon, according to police reports.
Ashwani Kumar, the victim, told police that he was traveling with his father from Sector 48 to their home when the incident occurred around noon. He said two vehicles, a Mahindra Thar and a Maruti Baleno, overtook and blocked his car near the petrol pump. Two men then exited their vehicles, allegedly smashed his car’s windows, and took ₹25,000 to ₹30,000 from the dashboard before fleeing with his car keys.
Kumar further claimed that two of the attackers own an AC shop in Jagatpura and had previously visited his shop, falsely claiming to be acting on the orders of a deputy superintendent of police (DSP). During the assault, one of the accused allegedly brandished a revolver and threatened to shoot him, according to Kumar.
Sub-inspector Ravinder Singh and officers from the Sector-39 police station arrived at the scene shortly after the complaint was filed to investigate. “We are verifying the circumstances and tracing the accused based on phone numbers provided by the complainant,” Singh said.
Kumar declined a medical examination following the incident, police noted. A case has been registered under Sections 309(4) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 25, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to verify the details and track down the suspects.
