Chandigarh, June 10: The Union Territory of Chandigarh has been recognized as the national leader in environmental performance, securing an impressive score of 89.09 out of 100 in the recent State of India’s Environment 2025 rankings.
This prestigious annual report, a collaborative effort between the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) and a prominent magazine, evaluates states and union territories on a comprehensive range of environmental and sustainable development metrics.
The assessment encompasses crucial areas such as forest and biodiversity, climate action, waste management, and water resource utilization. Chandigarh’s top-tier performance underscores its robust efforts across these diverse environmental facets.
Saurabh Kumar, the Chief Conservator of Forest and Director, Environment, Chandigarh, attributed this significant achievement to a concerted effort. “This recognition is a result of collective action by our Administration, civic bodies and most importantly, the residents of Chandigarh,” Kumar stated, acknowledging the broad participation that led to the territory’s success.
