Chandigarh: The Union Territory of Chandigarh experienced a slight increase in temperature following the retreat of the monsoon, with the maximum temperature rising from 35.3°C on Wednesday to 35.7°C on Thursday, 3.1 degrees above normal. This marks the highest temperature recorded in October since 2021, second only to 36.5°C on October 13, 2021.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), relief from the heat is expected soon, with rain anticipated on Saturday.
IMD Chandigarh Director Surender Paul noted that the clear skies contributed to the increase in daytime temperature.
He also mentioned that the minimum temperature fell from 22.4°C to 20.5°C on Thursday, which is 0.4 degrees below normal and the lowest recorded since the start of the monsoon.
A new weather system is developing over the region, suggesting a change in conditions. Cloudy weather is forecast for Friday, with light rain expected in the city on Saturday.
These weather changes are likely to lead to cooler days and warmer nights over the weekend.
