Tarn Taran, 16 December 2024: This morning, a violent clash erupted between two groups in the village of Mallian Kalan over a dispute concerning two feet of land.
The altercation escalated when shots were fired, with one bullet narrowly missing a man and grazing his turban. Tarn Taran City Police have launched an investigation, and three injured individuals have been hospitalized. A video of the bloody confrontation is circulating widely on social media.
The conflict reportedly began around 10 a.m., despite an ongoing court case and stay order over the contested land.
According to Wasan Singh, who is receiving treatment at the Civil Hospital, his neighbor, Sukhwinder Singh, attempted to occupy the disputed land by pouring water on it. When Wasan tried to intervene, Sukhwinder, along with family members and a nephew, allegedly attacked them.
“They fired pistols, and one bullet touched my turban,” said Wasan Singh, adding that his family barely escaped unscathed.
Meanwhile, Sukhwinder Singh’s wife claimed at the Civil Hospital that her husband had gone to water their fields when Wasan Singh and his relatives assaulted him. She also stated that her mother-in-law was among those injured in the attack.
Inspector Harpreet Singh, in charge of the Sadar police station, confirmed that the incident is under investigation. “We have secured CCTV footage from the scene and recovered bullet shells. Legal action has been initiated,” he said.
