Chandigarh, April 25 — Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday demanded strict disciplinary action against Air India personnel allegedly involved in the mistreatment of former Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh.

Calling the incident “deeply shameful,” Mann condemned the behavior of the airline staff, saying it was not only uncalled for but also deeply offensive to the sentiments of the Sikh community. “Singh Sahib is a revered figure, not just in Punjab but globally among Sikhs. Such misconduct is unacceptable and cannot be brushed aside,” the Chief Minister said in an official statement.

According to Mann, the episode has caused emotional distress among Sikhs worldwide and raised serious concerns about respect for religious and community leaders in public institutions. “This is not just about one individual,” he said. “It has bruised the collective psyche of the Sikh community and wounded their faith in the system.”

The Chief Minister urged the Government of India to intervene promptly and take exemplary action against those responsible. “The Centre must ensure that those at fault are held accountable in a manner that sets a precedent. This issue touches the hearts of millions,” he stated.

Mann further added that such incidents threaten the dignity of respected figures and reflect poorly on national carriers that are expected to uphold basic standards of conduct. He maintained that corrective measures and accountability are essential to prevent a recurrence.

The Chief Minister’s remarks follow reports that Singh, the former head of Sikhism’s highest temporal seat, faced inappropriate behavior from airline employees during a recent travel experience. Though details of the incident have yet to be officially confirmed, the outcry from Sikh quarters has grown steadily, with several leaders and organizations echoing the demand for action.

“Air India must not treat this casually,” Mann said. “Swift and serious response is not only warranted—it’s necessary.”

As calls for accountability grow, all eyes are now on the Union government and Air India for their next steps.
