Ambala, Sept 28: The death toll in the three-storey under-construction building collapse in the Dhulkot area of Ambala City rose to six on Monday, following the extraction of additional bodies from beneath the debris late Sunday night.
The disaster unfolded on Sunday afternoon around 3:00 PM while work crews were laying a concrete lintel slab. An estimated 35 to 40 labourers were present at the site when the structure suddenly gave way, trapping multiple workers beneath tons of concrete and steel reinforcement. Multi-agency response teams comprising the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local police, and fire personnel executed an intensive search and rescue operation, recovering 13 injured individuals who were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Ambala City. Hospital officials maintained that four victims were brought dead, while two others passed away during emergency treatment.
Grieving family members of the deceased labourers gathered at the site and local medical facilities, demanding the immediate registration of a formal FIR against the property owner for criminal negligence. Local political representatives, including MP Varun Chaudhry and Ambala City MLA Nirmal Singh, visited the injured at the Civil Hospital and met with bereaved families to assure assistance.
District authorities maintained that the collapse site has been cleared and the rescue operation has formally concluded. Officials confirmed that a dedicated inquiry committee will be constituted to examine structural deficiencies and investigate reports indicating the commercial construction was unauthorized. Police authorities affirmed that stringent legal action will follow against all responsible parties once administrative findings are submitted.
