Chandigarh, September 10, 2025 – The Gatka Federation UK, in association with the World Gatka Federation, will organise the 11th UK National Gatka Championship on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the Bay Sports Park, Swansea, Wales. Teams from across the United Kingdom are set to compete in the traditional Sikh martial art.

Describing the significance of the championship, Harjeet Singh Grewal, President of the World Gatka Federation and the National Gatka Association of India, said the annual event not only promotes Gatka as a sport but also helps preserve Sikh culture among the younger generation.

“This championship is an effort to promote and conserve our cultural and martial heritage, while encouraging youth to lead a disciplined and healthy lifestyle,” said Grewal, a State Awardee.

“We are thrilled to see the enthusiasm and growing participation in the Gatka game in the UK. This martial art instills self-control and confidence alongside physical prowess.”

Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, Member of Parliament from Slough and President of the Gatka Federation UK, noted that the event plays a crucial role in connecting younger generations with their cultural roots.

“The championship strengthens our bond with heritage and inspires the youth to embrace a healthy, active, and disciplined lifestyle,” Dhesi said.

The tournament will feature competitions across multiple age categories in Gatka Soti and Farrie-Soti, showcasing the agility, precision, and discipline of Gatkabaz (Gatka players). The event will also include martial art demonstrations.

The community-driven initiative is being supported by local Gurdwara Sahib management committees and the Sikh Sangat. Entry is free and open to the public, offering families a vibrant cultural experience. A traditional Langar (community kitchen) and refreshments will also be provided, reflecting the Sikh principle of selfless service (seva).

Gatka, an integral part of Sikh martial tradition, is a stick-fighting discipline that combines speed, agility, and constant eye contact with spiritual practice, emphasising both self-defense and self-control.
