Guwahati, 31 Dec. 24: Punjabi artist Diljit Dosanjh honored former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his concert in Guwahati on Sunday, dedicating the performance to the late leader who passed away on December 26 at the age of 92.
“Today’s concert is dedicated to Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. DIL-LUMINATI TOUR Year 24,” Dosanjh wrote in an Instagram post accompanying a clip from the event. Reflecting on Singh’s character, Dosanjh praised his humility and composed approach to life.
“He lived an incredibly simple life. Even when people criticized him, he never retaliated in the same way,” Dosanjh shared with the audience. “If you watch Lok Sabha sessions, politicians often argue like children, but Dr. Singh showed us how to maintain dignity in such moments.”
Singh, celebrated for his role in shaping India’s economic reforms, served as the nation’s 13th Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014.
Quoting Singh’s wisdom, Dosanjh recited one of his famous lines: “Hazaaron jawabon se meri khamoshi achhi, na jaane kitne sawalon ki aabroo dhak leti hai (‘My silence is better than a thousand answers, for it preserves the dignity of countless questions’).” He urged the younger generation to draw inspiration from Singh’s focus and resilience.
“We need to learn from him. Even when others tried to distract him, he stayed committed to his goals. Today, I bow in respect to a man who dedicated his life to this country,” Dosanjh said.
The singer, who is on his Dil-Luminati India Tour, is set to perform next in Ludhiana on December 31.
