New Delhi, 31 December 2024: India is examining options to support Nimisha Priya, a nurse from Kerala sentenced to death in Yemen for the murder of a Yemeni national, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday.
Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed awareness of the case and noted ongoing efforts to assist Priya. “We understand that Priya’s family is exploring relevant legal options. The government is extending all possible support in the matter,” Jaiswal said.
Priya has been in prison since 2017 after being convicted of killing Yemeni citizen Talal Abdo Mahdi. A Yemeni trial court sentenced her to death in 2018. Recent media reports indicate the execution could take place within a month, increasing the urgency of the family’s efforts to secure her release.
Her family has remained steadfast in its fight to save her, seeking intervention and diplomatic avenues for resolution.
