Chandigarh, March 26: Social Security, Women, and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur praised the Punjab budget for its welfare-centric approach, bringing out key provisions empowering marginalized sections and ensuring social justice.

She noted that the Punjab Scheduled Castes Land Development and Finance Corporation (PSCFC) has announced a complete waiver of loans taken until March 31, 2020, providing major relief to 4,650 beneficiaries. “This step will help distressed families regain financial stability,” she said.

Dr. Baljit Kaur welcomed the allocation of ₹9,340 crore for the welfare of Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, minorities, and other marginalized sections.

The funds will support financial assistance for the elderly, widows, destitute women, orphaned children, and persons with disabilities.

She also lauded the ₹450 crore earmarked to continue the free bus travel scheme for women, which has benefited over 12 crore women in the past year.

“This initiative has significantly enhanced women’s mobility and economic independence,” she added.

The minister said that under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership, the government is committed to making Punjab a ‘Rangla Punjab’ by prioritizing social justice and inclusive development.
