Gurugram, April 25: The Department of Town and Country Planning concluded a massive five-day enforcement operation on Thursday, successfully clearing 216 km of public road space across Gurugram’s premium residential sectors. The drive focused on dismantling illegal structures at approximately 7,000 properties in areas including DLF Phases 1 and 2, Palam Vihar, and Sushant Lok, where private extensions had occupied the government’s “right of way.”

District Town Planner Amit Madholia affirmed that eight specialized teams utilized heavy machinery to remove reinforced concrete ramps, guard rooms, and private gardens that had significantly narrowed arterial roads. Madholia stated that the department is now preparing a detailed interim report for the High Court, documenting every encroachment cleared during the campaign.

“Our teams have worked tirelessly to clear 216 km of road that had been occupied by illegal structures for years,” Madholia declared. He maintained that the action is a time-bound mandate intended to restore the city’s planned infrastructure, which had seen roads originally designed for 24-meter widths reduced to narrow lanes.

Residents of the affected colonies noted that the removal of these barriers has restored pedestrian safety. Aarohi Gupta, a local resident, affirmed that for years, citizens were forced to walk in traffic because footpaths were blocked by private lawns. She declared that the reclaiming of this space is a significant achievement for the administration, as it also addresses issues with blocked drains and manholes.

To prevent the return of these structures, the department affirmed that a monitoring committee is being established. Officials declared that the Haryana Shahri Vikas Pradhikaran is also scheduled to launch a parallel crackdown across 25 additional sectors starting April 27, ensuring that the momentum of urban restoration continues throughout the city.
