Kapurthala, 30 December 2024: Two women lost their lives and two others sustained serious injuries in a collision between a speeding car and an e-rickshaw on the Jalandhar-Amritsar National Highway near Kapurthala on Monday. The deceased, identified as Neelam Kumari (30) and Seema Rani (27), were residents of Guru Ravidas Nagar, Jalandhar, and were related as sisters-in-law.
The injured include 5-year-old Navjot Singh and e-rickshaw driver Jatinder Singh. Both were initially admitted to Kapurthala Civil Hospital but were later referred to a higher center due to their critical condition.
Subhanpur police have launched an investigation and registered a case against the car driver, identified as Jagjit Singh alias Jagga, under relevant sections. Investigating officer ASI Kulwinder Singh confirmed that the car involved has been seized, although the driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.
“The accused driver is absconding. We are pursuing leads to locate him,” ASI Kulwinder Singh said.
According to the police, the accident occurred when the speeding car collided with the e-rickshaw, fatally injuring the two women on board. The victims’ family filed a complaint, leading to an FIR against the driver.
Authorities are continuing the investigation, examining the circumstances of the accident and the condition of both vehicles.
