Louisiana, April 20: Authorities in Louisiana are investigating a tragic domestic violence incident after a man killed eight children in a shooting rampage across two separate residences in Shreveport early Monday morning. The victims, ranging in age from 1 to 14 years old, were discovered at the scene after a series of attacks that occurred just before dawn.
Shreveport Police Department spokesperson Chris Bordelon stated that the scale of the crime scene was unprecedented for the local department. He declared that the event was unlike anything most of the officers had ever witnessed in their careers.
The sequence of events began at one residence before the gunman moved to a second location where the majority of the fatalities occurred. At the second home, officers located seven deceased children. An eighth child was found dead on the roof of the building, having apparently attempted to flee the violence.
Following the shootings, the suspect reportedly carjacked a vehicle to facilitate his escape. Law enforcement engaged in a pursuit that crossed into neighboring Bossier Parish. During the chase, officers fired upon the vehicle, resulting in the suspect’s death.
Caddo Parish Constable Patrick Young identified the shooter as 31-year-old Shamar Elkins, though the Shreveport Police Department maintained that an official confirmation would follow family notifications. Reports affirmed that some of the victims were related to the gunman and that his own children resided at one of the homes involved.
Two additional individuals sustained injuries during the rampage and were transported to a local hospital for medical care. Neighbors noted that the man believed to be the shooter had been seen with the children just days prior to the incident.
