WOODSTOCK, ONTARIO, APRIL 27 — An elderly Sikh man was subjected to a racially motivated attack while walking in the province of Ontario, prompting local authorities to launch a hate crime investigation. Woodstock police stated that the incident occurred on April 22 when a young man approached the senior on a public sidewalk, pushed him, and directed racial slurs at him, including commands to leave the country.

Law enforcement officials affirmed that the assault was entirely unprovoked. Following the physical confrontation, the suspect reportedly fled the scene by scaling a school wall. Police maintained that while the victim was shaken by the encounter, he did not sustain any life-threatening physical injuries.

The Woodstock Police Service declared that the suspect has since been apprehended and faces multiple charges related to the assault. Investigators affirmed that video footage of the incident, which has circulated on social media, shows the youth repeatedly using derogatory language. “There is no place for such hatred in the community,” police stated in an official release.

The World Sikh Organization (WSO) affirmed its deep concern regarding the rise of such incidents in Canada. Representatives of the group stated their gratitude for the rapid response from the police department but maintained that more stringent measures are necessary to ensure the safety of the community.
