Gurdaspur, 8 December 2024: A devastating fire in Miyani Jhamela village, Behrampur, has destroyed 70 acres of paddy fields belonging to Gujjar families, resulting in losses estimated at ₹4-5 lakh.
The fire, which broke out suddenly, reduced the harvested paddy straw collected in tents to ashes, leaving the affected families in despair.
Ali Hassan, one of the victims, recounted the terrifying moments, noting that the fire’s intensity required the combined efforts of local residents and the fire brigade to bring it under control.
He added that if the fire had spread further, it could have led to significant loss of life and property. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
Aam Aadmi Party’s Dinanagar assembly in-charge, Shamsher Singh, visited the site to assess the damage and assured the affected families that the matter would be brought to the administration’s attention.
Singh promised assistance for the losses suffered by the Gujjar community. A large number of party workers and locals accompanied him during the visit.
