AMRITSAR, Dec 15 — Punjab Police have arrested four men and seized 4 kilograms of heroin, drug money and a firearm after busting a drug supply module allegedly operated on the directions of foreign-based smugglers, officials said Sunday.
The arrests were made by Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar, which also recovered ₹3.90 lakh in suspected drug proceeds and a .32-bore pistol with a magazine and five live cartridges, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said.
“The module was being run on the instructions of a foreign-based handler and was actively supplying heroin in Amritsar,” Yadav said in a statement.
The accused were identified as Yuvraj Singh of Roriwal, Varinder Singh of Dhaul Kalan, Jagroop Singh of Sangna and Jugraj Singh of Sarkaria Enclave, all residents of Amritsar. Police also impounded a Hero Splendor motorcycle and a Honda Activa scooter allegedly used to deliver drug consignments.
According to the DGP, CI teams received specific inputs that Yuvraj and Varinder, acting on the directions of Lakhwinder Singh alias Baba Lakha, had retrieved a heroin consignment from the Ajnala sector. The duo was planning to hand over the drugs to Jagroop Singh near Morcha Sahib gurdwara.
Police laid a trap and arrested the three men near the gurdwara, recovering the heroin and the firearm from their possession, Yadav said.
During questioning, Jagroop told investigators he was acting on the instructions of Daya Singh alias Preet Sekhon, who is lodged in Central Jail, Muktsar Sahib, police said.
Further interrogation led to the arrest of Jugraj Singh from Amritsar city, from whom ₹3.90 lakh in cash was recovered, the DGP added.
A case has been registered under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act at the SSOC police station in Amritsar. Further investigation is underway.
