Tarn Taran, 30 January 2025: Acting on Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directive to combat organized crime, Punjab Police busted a terror module linked to foreign-based terrorist Lakhbir Singh alias Landa.
Operated by USA-based Gurdev Singh alias Jaisal Chambhal and Canada-based Satbir alias Satta Naushehra, the module was dismantled with the arrest of four operatives after a brief exchange of fire in Tarn Taran, DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Thursday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
Robinjeet Singh alias Robin (Muradpura, Tarn Taran) Harpreet Singh alias Happy (Usman, Tarn Taran) Navjot Singh alias Nav (Kalanaur, Gurdaspur) Jagdeep Singh alias Jagga (Ghuman Kalan, Gurdaspur)
Police recovered two hand grenades, two sophisticated .30 bore pistols, three magazines, and ammunition from their possession.
A Honda Civic (without a registration plate) used in the crime was also impounded.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that during questioning, the arrested individuals confessed that the seized grenades and weapons were supplied by Jaisal Chambhal through an unknown associate.
They were allegedly planning to target someone on Jaisal Chambhal and Satta Naushehra’s instructions. The accused are linked to multiple criminal cases, including extortion and gang-related violence.
Investigations are ongoing to trace backward and forward linkages, the DGP added.
SSP Tarn Taran Abhimanyu Rana said that based on intelligence inputs about two suspects traveling in a Honda Civic, a police team led by CIA Staff Incharge Amandeep Singh, under the supervision of DSP Investigation Rajinder Manhas, set up a naka near Thathian Mahantan village on Sirhali Road.
When police intercepted the vehicle, the suspects opened fire, prompting retaliation. Robinjeet Singh sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was admitted to Civil Hospital, where he is stable.
Two hand grenades and a pistol with ammunition were recovered from the vehicle.
Following the initial arrests and interrogation, police nabbed Navjot alias Nav and Jagdeep alias Jagga, leading to the seizure of another pistol and ammunition.
Investigations revealed that these two were involved in a December 2024 firing incident in Heer village, Gurdaspur, where they demanded extortion from a house owner at Jaisal Chambhal’s behest.
