Global Experts Gather at PGIMER on Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Chandigarh, 09 November 2024: Global experts gathered at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) for the 2024 Global International Oncology Summit (GIOS), focusing on gastrointestinal cancers, particularly hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

The summit attracted leaders in oncology from around the world, who discussed recent breakthroughs in treatment options and the complexities of managing these cancers.

Dr. Vivek Lal, PGI’s director, noted that the summit provided an opportunity to explore cutting-edge treatment strategies and share insights into the latest research.

Key speakers included Dr. Yogesh Chawla, Dr. Seema Arif, and Dr. Reena Engineer, among others.

The day’s discussions began with a session on the role of radiology in diagnosing HCC. Dr. Rakesh Kapoor, organizing chairman, explained that the session explored emerging imaging techniques and their impact on treatment protocols.

Dr. Divya Khosla, organizing secretary, stressed liver-directed therapies, particularly Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), which was reviewed for its promising potential in treating HCC.

These sessions focused on innovative treatment options that are shaping the future of gastrointestinal oncology.
