New Delhi, December 20, 2024: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal has demanded an apology from Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his alleged disparaging remarks about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar during a recent parliamentary debate on the Constitution.

Speaking to the media outside Parliament, Harsimrat said, “Acknowledging one’s mistake only enhances one’s stature. People across the nation witnessed how Baba Saheb B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of our Constitution, was referred to in Parliament. Such remarks warrant an apology to pacify public sentiment.”

The criticism was echoed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which launched a scathing attack on Shah during a press conference in Jalandhar. AAP leaders accused the BJP and RSS of harboring an anti-Dalit and anti-Constitution agenda, pointing to Shah’s comments as indicative of their broader mindset.

“Dr. Ambedkar dedicated his life to crafting the Constitution, uniting India, and ensuring equal rights for all. Shah’s comments are not only insulting to his legacy but also expose the BJP and RSS’s anti-Dalit and anti-reservation stance,” said AAP leader Pawan Kumar Tinu.

Punjab Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO added that the remarks have caused distress to millions. “The sentiments of countless Indians have been hurt by Shah’s words,” he stated.

The controversy has drawn widespread criticism, with both regional and national parties rallying to defend Ambedkar’s legacy while questioning the BJP’s commitment to upholding constitutional values. Calls for an apology from Shah have continued to grow as political tensions mount.
