New Delhi, Chandigarh, December 20, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Kuwait on December 21-22, following an invitation from Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait.
Indian Ambassador to Kuwait, Adarsh Swaka, accentuated the significance of the visit, describing it as a milestone in Indo-Kuwaiti relations.
“This visit is happening after a 43-year gap, making it particularly historic,” Swaka noted. He also pointed out that Kuwait is the only Gulf nation Modi has not yet visited and underlined that this marks the first high-level engagement between the two countries in over a decade.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that Modi will hold talks with Kuwait’s top leadership and engage with the Indian community in Kuwait. The visit is expected to enhance diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.
India remains one of Kuwait’s leading trade partners, with the Gulf nation ranked as India’s sixth-largest crude oil supplier.
Ambassador Swaka remarked on the economic importance of the relationship, stating, “Kuwait relies on India for food security, and our bilateral trade has seen remarkable growth, reaching a record $2 billion in Indian exports last year.”
The visit carries both symbolic and strategic importance, with expectations of strengthening trade ties, fostering collaboration on food security, and solidifying diplomatic relations in the region.
