IAS Malwinder Jaggi Bids Farewell After 33 Years of Service

Chandigarh, March 31 – Malwinder Singh Jaggi, a 2005-batch Punjab cadre IAS officer and Secretary of the Information and Public Relations Department, retired on Sunday after completing 33 years of distinguished service in civil administration.

Jaggi, who began his career as a PCS officer in 1992, earned a reputation for his administrative efficiency and public-centric approach. Following his promotion to the IAS cadre in 2005, he served in key field positions, including SDM Ludhiana, ADC of Fatehgarh Sahib, Mansa, and Pathankot, and Commissioner of Municipal Corporations in Ludhiana and Amritsar.

He also held the post of Deputy Commissioner in Faridkot, where his handling of the Baba Sheikh Farid festival earned him lasting appreciation.

“Serving the people with dedication and transparency has always been my priority. I am grateful for the trust and support I received throughout my career,” Jaggi said on his retirement.

In addition to his field postings, Jaggi played a vital role at the administrative headquarters. As the Chief Executive Officer during the year-long celebrations marking the 550th Prakash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, he oversaw arrangements at Sultanpur Lodhi, Dera Baba Nanak, and other locations across Punjab and the country.

He also served as the Director of Transport, Social Security and Justice, and Culture and Tourism departments, and held leadership roles such as Chief Administrator of PUDA and Chairman of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA).

Reflecting on his tenure, Jaggi said, “The opportunity to contribute to large-scale events and policy initiatives was immensely fulfilling. It allowed me to serve the people of Punjab in a meaningful way.”

Born in Patiala, Jaggi grew up in an intellectual household. His father, Dr. Rattan Singh Jaggi, is a renowned Sikh scholar who recently received the Padma Shri for his literary contributions. After completing his primary education in Patiala, Jaggi pursued an engineering degree from GNE Ludhiana before entering public service.

Colleagues praised his commitment to solving public grievances efficiently and his dedication to improving administrative systems. “His sense of duty and problem-solving approach made a real difference in people’s lives,” a senior official remarked.

Jaggi’s retirement marks the end of a career defined by public service, administrative excellence, and a deep connection with the people of Punjab.
