Pathankot, December 2, 2024: Despite a statewide ban on mining enforced by the Aam Aadmi Party government, illegal mining activities persist, with a recent case surfacing in Pathankot’s Nangalpur area. Authorities uncovered mining operations in the Chakki Darya region under the cover of darkness.
Police officials, acting on a tip-off, raided the site and seized two tippers and a poker machine used in the illicit activity. The driver of one of the vehicles was arrested on the spot.
According to police, the crackdown followed specific intelligence from senior officials regarding ongoing illegal mining at Chakki Darya. The police have confirmed that further investigation into the matter is underway to identify and apprehend others involved.
Illegal mining remains a pressing issue in Punjab, undermining state regulations and environmental safeguards.
