Anantnag, July 22: A Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel was killed in the line of duty after terrorists opened fire in the Lal area of Anantnag district on Tuesday. The deceased officer, identified as Ashiq Hussain, sustained critical injuries during the incident and succumbed to his wounds shortly after.
Security forces immediately cordoned off the entire sector and deployed additional reinforcements to block potential escape routes. Senior security officials are supervising the ongoing search operations, with authorities confirming that a comprehensive statement will be released once the operation concludes.
Following the incident, Kulgam Police under the direction of Senior Superintendent of Police Anayat Ali Choudhary significantly escalated security protocols along the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) in the Qazigund area. The enhanced measures are aimed at preventing terrorist movement and maintaining commuter safety along the vital transit corridor.
Security personnel have established random frisking checkpoints, intensified vehicle verifications, and increased physical deployments at vulnerable locations along the strategic route.
“The heightened security measures have been implemented with the objective of preventing any movement of terrorists and ensuring the safety of commuters on the strategic highway,” stated official police sources.
Police authorities have advised travelers to cooperate with security personnel during verification drives as area-wide precaution measures remain active.
