Jewellery Worth ₹2.5 Crore Looted in Daylight Robbery in Dhakoli

ZIRAKPUR, July 12 — In a daring daylight robbery, two unidentified youths looted 2 kg of gold and 15 kg of silver — collectively worth around ₹2.5 crore — from a jewellery shop in Dhakoli around 12:40 pm on Saturday. The suspects fled the scene on a motorcycle after tying up the shopkeeper’s father and removing the CCTV camera recorder to cover their trail.

Govind, the shop owner, said his father, Surinder Kwatra, was alone at the shop when the suspects first entered around 11:30 am posing as customers. “They asked about a gold chain and left shortly after,” Govind said.

However, they returned an hour later, held the elderly man hostage, and dragged him to the upper floor of the building. “They claimed to have a pistol and threatened my father with serious harm if he resisted,” Govind added.

The robbers emptied jewellery from the display showcases and the shop’s safe in just over 10 minutes before escaping. They also removed the DVR from the CCTV system before leaving, making it difficult to trace their movements within the premises.

Surinder Kwatra later managed to untie himself and raise the alarm. With most nearby shops closed at the time, few people witnessed the incident. Police were informed and a forensic team reached the scene shortly thereafter.

Law enforcement officials are now scanning CCTV footage from nearby buildings to identify the culprits. “We are reviewing footage from adjacent properties and tracing the route of the suspects,” said a police official.
