NEW DELHI, AUGUST 5: Shri Anandpur Sahib Member of Parliament Malvinder Singh Kang met with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi to request that the Banga-Garhshankar-Shri Anandpur Sahib-Naina Devi road be declared a National Highway.
Presenting a formal representation, MP Kang maintained that upgrading the 54.50-kilometer stretch is essential for regional economic growth and for facilitating smooth movement for millions of travelers.
The MP affirmed that Union Minister Gadkari assured prompt attention to the matter, indicating that the Ministry would evaluate the long-pending infrastructure demand.
The Anandpur Sahib MP noted that the road serves as a primary corridor for global and domestic pilgrims visiting Takht Shri Keshgarh Sahib, Gurudwara Shri Kiratpur Sahib, and Mata Naina Devi Mandir in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh.
Kang stated that while the project received in-principle approval in 2016 and had its foundation stone laid by Union Minister Gadkari in 2019, progress remained stalled for years.
Highlighting that daily traffic volumes have crossed 20,000 Passenger Car Units alongside heavy transport from Shivalik mining sites, the MP asserted that handing over maintenance and widening work to the National Highways Authority of India is necessary to ensure commuter safety and regional connectivity.
