Chandigarh, May 11 — UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria on Sunday conducted an inspection of the infrastructure at the Chandigarh Transport Area in Sector 26 and called for a coordinated upgrade of key facilities serving transport workers.

During his visit, Kataria met with members of the Chandigarh Transport Association (CTA), who raised several concerns about the state of the area.

The issues brought to his attention included excessive parking fees for heavy vehicles, deteriorating road conditions, and the lack of adequate amenities for drivers such as hygienic accommodation, dining services, and protective shelters.

“The drivers work under demanding conditions, and it is imperative that we ensure their basic needs are addressed properly,” Kataria said during the meeting.

Responding to the concerns, Kataria instructed officials to improve the infrastructure and support services in collaboration with all stakeholders. “The facilities must be upgraded in a manner that is both practical and efficient,” he said.

“We need solutions that actually serve the people using this space every day.”

Senior officials present at the inspection included Vivek Pratap Singh, Principal Secretary to the Governor; Nishant Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of the UT; Amit Kumar, Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation; Joint Commissioner Sumeet Sihag; and Chief Engineer Sanjay Arora. Other senior administrators from the UT administration were also in attendance.

Kataria underlined that any enhancements should align with actual needs on the ground and be planned in close consultation with transport workers and civic agencies alike.
