Amritsar, September 1: Amritsar police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 35-year-old lab technician who was gunned down outside a restaurant on Batala Road late Sunday night.

The victim, identified as Ashutosh Mahajan, worked at SR Government College for Girls and was the son of the restaurant’s owner. According to eyewitnesses, two masked assailants on a motorcycle carried out the attack. One suspect reportedly went inside the restaurant to ask for water while the other waited outside before both opened fire. Mahajan was struck three times and later declared dead at a hospital.

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity and analyzing the victim’s call records. “Statements from the family have been recorded and further leads are being followed,” Bhullar mentioned.

Within hours of the killing, gangster Hari Boxer—associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang—claimed responsibility through a social media account operating under the name Anmol Bishnoi. The post alleged that Mahajan had been working as a police informer and had tipped off authorities about the whereabouts of their associate, Nona Harike. “He was taught a lesson,” the message read.

Police officials said the gang’s claims are being verified as part of the ongoing probe. “We are not ruling out any angle,” Bhullar noted, adding that security around the area has been tightened.
