Kapurthala, August 14: Punjab Pradesh Mahila Congress has removed Sangeeta Dhir from her position as Kapurthala District Mahila Congress president and expelled her from the party with immediate effect. Issued by Punjab Pradesh Mahila Congress Working President Baljit Kaur, the official communication cited persistent reports regarding alleged anti-party activities that ran counter to organizational discipline.
Responding to the action, the senior leader rejected the claims while voicing deep anguish over the manner of her exit. She maintained that her long commitment to the organization was overlooked in favor of internal political maneuvering.
If I was actually involved in anti-party activities, why did the party leadership not raise any objection for such a long period, Sangeeta Dhir asked, stating that she regularly led district initiatives, including major protests against the state government, while actively representing the party across forums.
Addressing reporters, Dhir formally tendered her resignation from the primary membership, maintaining that hardworking grassroots workers are being sidelined. She also pointed to administrative inconsistencies in the expulsion document circulating publicly, noting conflicting year dates on copies sharing the same reference number. The sudden disciplinary measure has sparked active discussion among political circles across Kapurthala, given her nearly thirty-year association with the party’s women’s wing.
