Chandigarh, August 14: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal declared that maintaining communal and religious harmony remains the primary objective for his party, speaking to the media a day after surviving a violent attack at Takht Shri Hazur Sahib in Nanded. Discharged from a medical facility after receiving treatment for an arm injury, the former Deputy Chief Minister asserted that anti-peace elements attempting to destabilize Punjab will not succeed in their motives.
Reflecting on the vision of former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, the SAD leader maintained that his father never compromised with divisive forces and consistently prioritized peaceful coexistence across all religious communities.
Whenever my father was the chief minister, he maintained communal harmony in the state and respected all religions. These forces had made an attempt on me a year back also and they have tried again. Their mission is to take advantage of the situation in Punjab and disturb peace, which as SAD president I will never allow, Sukhbir Singh Badal stated.
Accompanied by Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal and senior party leaders, the Akali leader affirmed his firm resolve despite repeated security threats at revered locations.
I have always said that nothing can happen to a person who is protected by the almighty Guru. Let them try with all their might, everything is in the hands of God. Those who are enemies of peace and harmony have tried to harm me several times, but I am always protected by the almighty Guru, the SAD president declared, adding that he remains entirely unafraid and committed to serving the people.
Central leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, reached out to the family to inquire about Badal’s well-being following the incident. Law enforcement authorities confirmed that the assailant, identified as a long-serving sewadar at the shrine, was taken into custody immediately after the event.
