Fatehgarh Sahib, March 26: The Punjab Police Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in coordination with the Chandigarh Police, apprehended the primary suspect in the Panjab University firing case during an encounter in Fatehgarh Sahib on Thursday. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated that the arrested individual, identified as Jaspreet Singh, alias Jas, is a key member of the Doni Bal/Bambiha group.

The arrest followed a tracking operation that led police to the Amloh–Patran road. ADGP AGTF Promod Ban affirmed that the suspect opened fire on the police team when intercepted, leading to a retaliatory exchange. The accused sustained injuries during the confrontation and was subsequently moved to a local hospital for medical care.

Preliminary findings suggest the attack on student leader Jashanpreet Singh Jawanda was orchestrated under the instructions of the Bambiha gang. Police officials maintained that the investigation is active to identify all individuals associated with the conspiracy.

Authorities recovered a .32 bore country-made pistol, magazines, live cartridges, and empty shells from the scene. The Amloh police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.
