Adelaide, July 27: A severe fire destroyed Gurdwara Sahib Dhamesh Darbar in Adelaide, South Australia, late Sunday night, prompting emergency operations as officials work to assess damage to the holy saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
The blaze broke out in the langar hall kitchen around 10:30 pm local time, roughly an hour after the conclusion of the Sunday evening diwan, before rapidly spreading through the main prayer hall.
“The condition of the saroop in the Palki Sahib remains a primary concern after the roof of the main hall collapsed directly onto the structure,” maintained a representative of the Gurdwara management committee.
Witnesses noted that the intensity of the fire caused multiple explosions within the langar hall building, leading to the structural collapse of a major portion of the complex.
South Australian police and fire services cordoned off the perimeter to secure the area, temporarily restricting entry while efforts continue to clear debris and retrieve the holy saroops safely.
Management officials advised against premature assumptions regarding the precise loss while arson investigators work alongside local police to establish the exact cause of the ignition.
