New Delhi: Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu received a ceremonial welcome and guard of honor at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday during his first bilateral visit to India with the Ministry of External Affairs noting that Muizzu’s visit would enhance the long-standing comprehensive bilateral partnership between India and the Maldives.

Accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a Maldivian delegation, Muizzu arrived in India on Sunday evening and Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the visiting dignitaries at the ceremony on Monday.

Following the welcome, Muizzu paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat by laying a wreath, accompanied by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh.

Although Muizzu attended Prime Minister Modi’s swearing-in ceremony in June, this marks his first official visit focused on bilateral relations.
