Jammu, Jan 21: A man was shot dead by unknown assailants in the Jewal Chowk area of Jammu on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
An official reported that the victim, who was traveling in an SUV, was attacked by unidentified individuals already present in the area.
The assailants fired four bullets at him, causing severe injuries.
“The injured was rushed to Government Medical College Jammu, where he was declared dead on arrival. The attackers managed to escape the scene,” the official added.
Police have reached the spot and launched a massive search operation to apprehend the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, the police ruled out any conflict angle stating that tncident was the result of gang rivalry.
Additional director general of Police (ADGP), Jammu Anand Jain told reporters that the incident was due gang rivalry.
He said Gataru gang of Vijaypur attacked the member of its rival group and there was no terrorist angle in the incident.
