Faridabad, June 27: A major security lapse has emerged from Haryana as thirty-two licensed firearms deposited for safekeeping have vanished from the armoury of the Sector 8 police station in Faridabad. The missing cache includes several high-value, foreign-made weapons valued between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 10 lakh. Following the discovery, the regional police establishment initiated a departmental inquiry and suspended the malkhana in-charge, Assistant Sub-Inspector Bijendra Singh, while registering a case of theft against him.

The gravity of the situation remains a top priority for senior administration, given the potential risk if the firearms fall into the wrong hands. Investigators suspect that the unaccounted weapons may have already been illegally sold across regional borders into Rajasthan, Noida, and other areas of the Delhi-NCR. Top leadership has affirmed that strict accountability will be maintained as teams work discreetly to locate the inventory.

The discrepancy first surfaced during a standard oversight inspection of the facility. While preliminary administrative assessments indicated that only thirteen firearms were unaccounted for, a subsequent detailed inventory check confirmed the larger shortage of thirty-two weapons. These firearms belonged to local residents who had dutifully surrendered them to the state custody for temporary security.

Efforts are currently focused on a swift recovery operation to prevent any potential misuse of the property in unlawful activities. The department is handling the probe with utmost confidentiality to ensure a seamless investigation.

“The matter is under investigation. Whoever played a role in the theft of the weapons will not be spared,” declared Satender Kumar Gupta, Police Commissioner.
