Chandigarh, November 28, 2024 – The four newly elected MLAs from Punjab’s by-elections will be sworn in on December 2. Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan will administer the oath during a ceremony scheduled for 11:30 am. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is also expected to attend.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) emerged victorious in three of the four seats contested, increasing its total strength in the Punjab Assembly to 95. Congress secured the remaining seat, while Shiromani Akali Dal chose not to participate in these by-elections.
By-Election Results
Chabewal: Dr. Ishank Kumar (AAP) won with a margin of 28,690 votes, securing 51,904 votes. Congress candidate Ranjit Kumar and BJP’s Sohan Singh Thandal received 23,214 and 8,692 votes, respectively.
Giddarbaha: Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon (AAP) triumphed with a margin of 21,969 votes, garnering 71,644 votes. Congress’ Amrita Waring received 49,675 votes, and BJP’s Manpreet Singh Badal secured 12,227 votes.
Dera Baba Nanak: Gurdeep Singh Randhawa (AAP) won by 5,699 votes, obtaining 59,104 votes. Congress’ Jitinder Kaur received 53,405 votes, while BJP’s Ravi Karan Singh Kahlon managed 6,505 votes.
Barnala: Congress’ Kuldeep Singh Kala Dhillon defeated AAP’s Harinder Singh Dhaliwal by 2,157 votes, securing 28,254 votes to Dhaliwal’s 26,097 votes.
The swearing-in ceremony marks a significant moment for AAP as it consolidates its position in the state assembly.
