Chandigarh, November 14, 2024 — A minor altercation escalated into a bloody clash in Kumbhara village, near Mohali, leaving one teenager dead and another critically injured.

According to eyewitnesses, a group of 10-12 youths armed with sharp weapons attacked two local teenagers, Damanpreet Singh, 17, and his 16-year-old friend.

Initial reports indicate that the assailants are believed to be immigrants residing in nearby paying guest accommodations. The altercation reportedly began when the two victims were playing in the street, and the attackers confronted them over noise issues. According to Damanpreet’s aunt, the attackers, who were on motorcycles, collided with the teenagers, sparking a heated exchange. The situation quickly spiraled out of control when the assailants allegedly drew sharp weapons and launched a brutal assault.

Damanpreet and his friend were rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. Tragically, Damanpreet succumbed to his injuries, while his friend remains in critical condition, fighting for his life. Family members, stricken with grief, gathered outside the hospital, demanding justice for the victims.

As news of the incident spread, outraged villagers and family members blocked the busy airport road in protest, calling for the immediate arrest of the attackers. The road blockade resulted in heavy traffic congestion, with long queues of vehicles stretching in all directions.

Senior police officials, including SP Harbir Atwal, arrived at the scene to negotiate with the protesters and urged them to lift the blockade. Authorities have assured the family and the villagers that swift action will be taken to apprehend the culprits. However, the situation remained tense as the protestors insisted on continuing their demonstration until the accused are arrested.

The Mohali Police have launched an investigation into the attack, focusing on identifying and locating the suspects involved. The incident has sparked concerns among the local community about the rising tensions between residents and migrant workers in the area.
