Over 57 Crore Saplings Prepared For UP Green Drive

Multiple government departments collaborate for massive environmental campaign on July 12.

Lucknow, July 9: The Forest Department has finalized comprehensive arrangements for the upcoming Plantation Mahayagya scheduled for July 12, under which 35 crore saplings will be planted across the state. To ensure the seamless execution of this extensive ecological initiative, a total of 57.62 crore saplings have been successfully readied in over 2,600 institutional and private nurseries.

Chief Conservator of Forests (Publicity/Public Outreach) Aditi Sharma declared that continuous distribution of saplings is currently underway across divisions, districts, and participating departments to support the upcoming event. “Under the directions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, this Mahayagya will be unprecedented through public participation and the collective efforts of all departments,” the Chief Conservator stated.

The massive logistics framework involves distribution from 1,939 nurseries managed by the Forest Department, which holds the largest stock of 52.46 crore saplings, including 12.68 crore from older stock and 39.78 crore from new growth. Additionally, 146 Horticulture Department nurseries have prepared 1.55 crore saplings, 55 Sericulture Department nurseries have contributed 44 lakh, and 499 registered private nurseries have added 3.17 crore saplings to the statewide pool.

Central and state government entities are integrating their resources to achieve the collective 35 crore plantation benchmark this year. The Department of Forest, Environment and Climate Change is leading the initiative as the nodal agency with a target of planting 15.50 crore saplings. Supporting this effort, the Rural Development Department is scheduled to plant 10 crore saplings, followed by the Agriculture Department with 3.25 crore, the Horticulture Department with 1.50 crore, the Panchayati Raj Department with 1.22 crore, and the Revenue Department with 1 crore saplings.

The environmental campaign has also secured significant participation from central ministries. The Ministry of Railways has committed to planting 12 lakh saplings, while the Ministry of Defence will establish 7 lakh saplings as part of the joint green initiative.

Other participating sectors contributing to the drive include Urban Development with 45 lakh saplings, Jal Shakti with 23 lakh, Higher Education with 20 lakh, and Medical, Health and Family Welfare with 16 lakh. Furthermore, the departments of Animal Husbandry, Sericulture, Public Works, Basic Education, MSME, Secondary Education, Infrastructure and Industrial Development, Home, Energy, Cooperation, Housing, Technical Education, and Transport will execute targeted plantations ranging from 15 lakh to 3 lakh saplings to fulfill the state’s comprehensive ecological targets.
