New Delhi: On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi, a pivotal figure in India’s freedom struggle, on his birth anniversary.
In a post on X, Modi said that Gandhi’s principles of truth, harmony, and equality will continue to inspire the people of India.
“Regarded as the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi consistently adhered to the ideals of truth and non-violence, influencing countless politicians and activists globally,” reads the post.
PM Modi also honored Lal Bahadur Shastri, India’s second Prime Minister, who shares the same birth date.
“He dedicated his life to the country’s soldiers, farmers, and pride,” Modi remarked, recalling Shastri’s famous slogan, “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,” and noting the simplicity and integrity that earned him widespread respect.
