CHANDIGARH, January 25: In a major breakthrough against organized crime, Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in coordination with SAS Nagar Police, apprehended Mehfuj alias Vishal Khan, an associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar gang, in connection with a September 2024 firing incident at an IELTS/Immigration Centre in Dera Bassi.

A .32-calibre pistol and five cartridges were recovered from his possession, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav announced on Saturday.

The attack, allegedly orchestrated to extort the center’s owner, was carried out by two motorcycle-borne assailants in broad daylight.

“Mehfuj Khan, who has been absconding since the incident, along with jailed gangster Manjeet alias Guri, planned the attack,” DGP Yadav revealed.

All other suspects involved, including Jagdeep Jagga, Mohit Kumar alias Banti, and Gurkirat Singh Bedi, have already been apprehended.

Additional DGP AGTF Promod Ban disclosed that Khan’s hideout near the Punjab-Haryana border was identified through human intelligence.

Acting swiftly, a team led by AIG Gurmeet Chauhan and SAS Nagar SSP Deepak Pareek captured the fugitive.

Investigations have revealed that Khan has been operating under the directives of Goldy Brar since 2023 and had previously obtained weapons from Joginder alias Joga, linked to the Sidhu Moosewala case.

“The accused was also planning a major crime in the tricity area,” SSP Pareek added, confirming that further investigations are underway to uncover broader links.

A case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act was registered on September 19, 2024, at Dera Bassi Police Station.
