CHANDIGARH, APRIL 26 — Significant public unrest surfaced across Punjab on Saturday as Aam Aadmi Party supporters and local residents staged demonstrations against Rajya Sabha MPs Harbhajan Singh, Ashok Mittal, and Rajinder Gupta. The protests followed the lawmakers’ decision to align with the Bharatiya Janata Party, prompting activists to write slogans branding the trio as “Gaddar” on the walls of their private residences and Lovely Professional University.
In Jalandhar, senior AAP leader Pawan Kumar Tinu affirmed that the party is on track to retain power in the 2027 elections. He stated that the BJP is engaging in desperate measures by poaching representatives through any means necessary because they lack a political foundation in the state. Tinu declared that a coordinated effort between the Congress, BJP, and Akali Dal has emerged to challenge the current administration, though he maintained such alliances would prove ineffective.
Parminder Goldy, the acting president of the AAP Punjab Youth Wing, organized a demonstration at the home of Rajinder Gupta where effigies were burned. Goldy stated that the citizens of Punjab would not overlook this breach of confidence. He asserted that the BJP is intimidated by the governance model established by Arvind Kejriwal and is attempting to weaken the party through various conspiracies.
The demonstrations reflected a wider sentiment of betrayal among the electorate, with some protesters stating they would boycott institutions associated with the MPs. Party leaders maintained that the organization remains unified and that the public will provide a decisive response to those who have abandoned their original mandate.
