Chandigarh, August 1: Indian Railways announced the approval of a direct train service connecting Ludhiana in Punjab to Jind in Haryana. The decision expands existing passenger services to streamline travel times and improve regional connectivity across neighboring northern states.
Railway authorities stated that the route expansion addresses a long-standing demand from daily commuters, traders, and passenger associations in both regions. Officials affirmed that the extension will facilitate seamless transportation and foster closer economic interaction between key industrial hubs in Punjab and commercial districts in Haryana.
The Ministry of Railways officially sanctioned the extension of the daily Ludhiana–Jakhal Passenger Train (Train No. 54053/54054) all the way to Jind Junction in Haryana. The direct corridor dramatically reduces travel times and eliminates the long-standing hassle of changing trains.
Managed by the Northern Railway (NR) zone, the extended daily service stretches the train’s route from 128 kilometres to 200 kilometres.
Previously, passengers travelling from Punjab toward central Haryana had to disembark and wait for connecting services at Jakhal Junction. This newly revised operational layout establishes a continuous, uninterrupted path between the major industrial hub of Ludhiana and the prominent commercial city of Jind.
The newly added portion of the railway route features complete commercial stoppages at all intermediate stations between Jakhal and Jind. This inclusive routing pattern ensures that smaller towns and rural villages along the line gain direct entry to the interstate passenger network.

Traders & Business Owners: Faster access to regional agricultural and commercial markets.
Students: Reliable transportation to prominent higher educational institutions located in Ludhiana and Jind.
The expansion comes amidst a massive infrastructure push in the region by Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Punjab’s current annual railway budget allocation has been elevated to a historic ₹5,673 crore, running concurrently with the ₹201 crore Kavach automated safety system installation across the Ambala division.
Furthermore, major junctions in the area like Ludhiana, Bathinda, and Jalandhar Cantt are actively undergoing modernization under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, creating a highly integrated transit web throughout northern India.
