Chandigarh, March 19: The Punjab Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) apprehended two primary suspects involved in the daylight murder of a Chandigarh property dealer following a brief encounter in Kaithal on Thursday. The arrests of Piyush Pehelwan and Pritam Shah occurred less than 30 hours after 31-year-old Chamanpreet Singh, also known as Chini, was shot dead outside a gym in Sector 9.

Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated that the suspects opened fire on police teams during the joint operation, leading to a retaliatory exchange. Both accused sustained injuries during the shootout and were subsequently moved to a hospital for medical treatment. Officials affirmed that the motorcycle used during the Chandigarh crime and a cache of three pistols, including a Chinese .30 caliber weapon, were recovered at the scene.

Police identified the suspects as key associates of fugitive gangster Lucky Patial of the Bambiha gang. Investigations revealed that Pehelwan, a native of Ferozepur, recently entered India illegally from Malaysia via Nepal. The DGP maintained that Pehelwan was also wanted in connection with the high-profile murder of Yadwinder Singh.

The victim, a resident of Kubaheri village, was targeted on Wednesday while arriving at a parking area in his SUV. Assailants fired approximately 11 rounds before fleeing. Authorities declared that further investigations are underway to uncover the motive behind the attack and identify any additional accomplices.
