Punjab Releases ₹30.35 Crore Under Ashirwad Scheme

Chandigarh, 18 January 2025: The Punjab Government allocated ₹30.35 crore in the ongoing financial year 2024-25, aiding 5,951 beneficiaries under the Ashirwad Scheme for Scheduled Castes.

Social Justice Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur announced that the funds addressed pending applications from districts including Ferozepur, Jalandhar, Bathinda, Patiala, and others. The financial aid resolves claims from 2023-24 and 2024-25, benefiting families for their daughters’ marriages.

District-specific allocations include 1,263 beneficiaries in Jalandhar, 1,230 in Ferozepur, 530 in Patiala, 408 in Sangrur, and smaller numbers in Barnala, Rupnagar, Malerkotla, and other areas. Each eligible family receives ₹51,000, directly credited to their bank accounts.

Eligibility criteria require applicants to belong to Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, or economically weaker sections, with annual family income capped at ₹10 lakh or less. The scheme benefits up to two daughters per family.

Dr Baljit Kaur underscored that the government is committed to enhancing living standards across marginalized communities through timely financial support and empowerment programs.
